How do you tell the story on paper? What you see is not what is real. The truth behind a facade. The truth always hides. The truth hides behind what we think our audience wants to see. Is it the artist'sresponsibility to draw the truth or to draw what people expect to see? Even if we have the courage to draw the truth - can we see it? Or - does the truth want to be revealed?

A second Shakespeare inspired simple collage using white, brown, and black, add one color - I love red with the black.
This collage has papers from an old book of Shakespeare plays I bought at a flea market. What a surprise when I found the book stuffed with authentic ticket stubs.
Theatre tickets for Shakespeare plays - from the 40's and 50's.
Please check eBay for my art auctions. Search "jgg", this collage will be up for auction very soon. Thanks for looking!

"123 ON BOTTOM"
Collage and acrylic paint - mixed/media. This is one of my simple collage exercises.
I learned this from Tara Grim, http://www.tarasstudio.com/, in Bethany Beach DE. Using white, brown and black paper - chose a composition, decide if the collage will be mostly light or dark. After the foundation collage is completed - introduce one more color. If you keep it simple and don't give yourself too many choices - you will stay focused.

This week I said good-bye to my favorite angel collages. The angel was inspired by a monument in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in York PA. One painting is titled "Remember Me." In this collage I included a photo of my own great-great grandmother. The other was named "I Was More Than A Recipe." During one of my shopping trips in the used book stores, I found an old black and white composition book filled with recipes. The book was dated 1943, I used one of the recipes in his collage.

"RAVEN TOTEM" is the last of my "5 Easy Pieces" drawings. When I started this drawing, I knew I wanted a raven enveloping a person's head. I hadn't really pictured the person in my head - I just started with the raven. This is one of those drawings that just draws itself. Suddenly I'm finished and I don't remember doing the drawing. I love when that hppens!
This drawing will be posted on eBay in a few days. Search "jgg" to find it.
