March 30, 2009 Abstract Floral

Potted Flowers

This is another square 12 x 12" gallery wrapped canvas. Flowers are a great subject for fracturing - zooming in and zooming out. I like the difference in the two stripped wallpaper sections.

Key West

I started this canvas with a canvas collage. I glued horizontal strips of the canvas to look like waves and bunched up strings from the canvas to look like the grasses the waves wash up on the beach. I fractured the composition using the lines from the palm leaves and the trees. I took alot of liberty with the colors - but that's what I love most about this style!

This painting measures 20 x 16" and is painted with acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.

CatTails

I draw a number of these with different skys and some with out the geometric color breaks. I liked the color blocks along line made by the shore. I used origami paper for some of these blocks and textured paper for three of the cattails.

This painting is 12" x 12". on gallery wrapped canvas.

March 4, 2009 Abstract Realism Landscape

Autumn Landscape

This painting was also completed last year. I did the preliminary a few times using other colors, like greens for spring and summer. But I liked the ochres and purples with the red foliage best. I collaged tissue paper under the tree trunks for texture.

Dancing Lizards

This painting was completed last year in a class I took with Ophelia Chambliss.

The paper copy shows how I worked out the composition and color. I was going to add a shadow of a Kopeki figure, but it seemed to be too much. So I settled for dancing lizards - I carved the rubber stamp myself!
