Gnomes Gnomes Gnomes

In the back corner of my mind, I harbor ideas for paintings.
Gnomes
I've always had an attraction to gnomes, don't know why, there are none in my garden, none in my house, just in my head!

When Your Heart Says FLY !

Ball-Point Pen drawings of wings and things.

I just don't have much to say about this painting.
I feel like there weren't any decisions,
it just painted itself.

. . . the photography is just awful!!

When Your Heart Says Fly

When Your Heart Says Fly

Another Heart painting to be the companion piece to Gracious Heart.
Another RED HEART on the textured black background.

Again, I've collaged paper and fabric strips.

This painting is about taking flight -
spreading your wings when your heart says fly!
I need to make some drawings to use as my
collage material, drawings of wings . . .

Gracious Heart

Back to Painting

The background of Gracious Heart -
I've added texture with modeling paste and rubber stamps.
I tried a white background . . .

I tried a creamy beige background . . .

and finally settled for a burnt umber, black, and ochre background.
Finished.

Gracious Heart

Back to Painting

I've put the illustrating on the back burner. It's time to knock out a few new paintings for a gallery exhibit in November. I'm including a few older paintings in the show, so, these new ones have to be similar so my "body of work" is cohesive.

This "cohesive" style/technique includes acrylic paint and collage and a touch of WHIMSY
 - and using my own art as the collage material.
I've had this idea of illustrating a gracious heart.

I've painted a red heart  - on a black background.
Added strips of matching fabric as a border on the bottom,
and paper in the heart and background.
The solid black background is boring - so - what to do?

I've made flowers with my colored pencils and cut them out individually
and glued them down with matte medium.

I was going to write Gracious Heart in the white strip under the heart,
but decided not. Still, the background . . . .

Key west picture book - page 13 & 14 - The End

pages 13 & 14

Finally the end !!!

we have the blanket, the bear, starfish, chicken, cat,
turtle, lizard, the blasted shoes,
and the cracked eggs . . .
and finally, the last page,
the end of the lullaby,
the end of the dream . . .

so all the critters are here, and the shoes,
and blanket, and bear,
and the last surprise -
but you knew it was coming . . .
the baby chicks!

Key west picture book - page 12 - Crocodile

Page 12 - The Crocodile

We are nearing the end -
with the Bear, the Blanket,
starfish, chicken, cat, turtle and lizards

I wanted him to look like a Pirate Croc - but I'm rethinking that . . .
In the Final Sketch I've made him a friendlier Pirate Croc,
added the blanket, the turtle, the starfish, the eggs - which by the way are starting to crack -
and uh oh - where are those blasted shoes?

Key West picture book - page 11

page 11 - Seaweed Swing

- with the Bear, the blanket, the chicken, cat,
lizard, turtle, starfish, the shrimp is wearing the shoes -
 but no eggs!
and I wanted to see what this would look like in color . . .

So, I add the eggs and the shoes on the Final Sketch . . .

and started the watercolor base and the colored pencils
