Art Journal - wishing I could make beautiful art

There is one moment, in the first few seconds, when you look at a piece of art and know that you love it. It’s the moment when, if you’re an artist yourself, you look at it and feel a rush of uplifting inspiration… and total soul-crushing jealousy all at the same time. It’s when you walk away thinking, “Damn, I wish I thought of that."

It's rather uplifting to hear those words from another artist. I have those feelings frequently. Those jealpus feelings just shut me down, making me feel inadequate and not worthy to pick up a brush.

  1. I have those moments too, but the more I make art, and the more I look at other people's art, I have fewer times when I really think 'I wish I'd painted that'. And when I do feel that way, I think really hard about exactly what it is that draws me to the piece, and I find that the thought process I go through, helps me form my own vision of the artist that I want to be. Beautiful creative work on this one! I love that snowman...
