February 29, 2009 Abstract Realism

These two paintings are a companion piece. As you can see from the original design, I meant then to be hung together, since they are one composition on two canvases. Then I got to thinking - and decided to make them different. The still life on the left has collaged textured paper glued on the canvas, then acrylic paint applied on top. The second still life was painted first, then paper was collaged on top along with some stamping.

These paintings measure 20 x 30 and are painted on gallery wrapped canvas.

Feb. 27, 2009 Abstract realism

February 27th , and here I am finally ready to start the new year! Up until now my "Artist Spirit" seems to have been on vacation. But now - gratefully - it's back. I've completed my 2009 Goals and To Do List and I'm off and running. My biggest goal is to spend more time in my Studio than I do in front of the TV!!

I have acquired the privilege of gallery representation again this year with The Riverview Gallery in Havre De Grace, MD. By the end of March, I will deliver the paintings to start this year's season.

So - the first item on my To Do List is to finish this new group of paintings I started last year. This is a new style for me - Abstract Realism (is that an oxymoron?) - acrylic & collage - in a bold primary palette.
Last year I started by designing these paintings first on paper, working out the composition and color, then painted them on gallery wrapped canvases. I am working smaller and by eliminating the frame, these paintings are more affordable to both me and the gallery audience.

If you have the opportunity to visit Havre De Grace, Maryland, check out The Riverview Gallery on 224 N. Washington St and see my paintings - After April 1st, 2009. There are many other galleries in this town and some great places to eat.
Also - here's a big shout out to Paul Kasmir - a fabulous illustrator - I'm doing fine, hope all is well with you and yours.
To the rest of you - check out his website - www.paulkasmir.com.
