the mini Art Journal and the picnic

pages 10 & 11

RED GINGHAM

Enjoy the little things in life
for one day you'll look back
and realize they were the BIG things.

There are certain fabrics - like gingham - that make me nostalgic.
The particular color of the gingham helps me to recall specific activities.
With RED GINGHAM I can remember picnics. Looking back . . .

The mini Art Journal and the Ocean

pages 4 & 5:

WALK BAREFOOT ON THE BEACH

Forget about stopping to smell the roses, just take off your shoes and walk on the beach. Not near a beach, walk in the grass, walk in a puddle - at the very least - just take off your shoes. Free your self from your usual constraints and just be . . .

Merry Christmas and the Wold and Dog

Christmas in August - I missed July!
A Pen and Ink drawing.
First you see the wolf, then you realize
he is with a Santa figure - but wait -
Santa is a dog.
Well who knows - maybe Santa can be
whatever or whoever you want him to be!

The mini Art Journal and the Alligator

 pages 2 & 3:

See You Later Alligator

This journal is made up of scraps of words and quotes and pictures I have collected over the years from hundreds of magazines and books. Glued with a student grade glue stick alongside my own original drawings. I used acrylic paint on only one page, I did not like waiting for the paint to dry so the rest of the drawings and writing were made with ink pens, gel pens, and colored pencils.

Ball Point Pen drawing Octopus/Kracken with Anchor

Ball Point Pen - one of my favorite drawing tools.
I used this fabulous vintage sheet music for the background.
Surprisingly it held up to the pen drawing.
I originally used only a black pen, but then I went back and
added some color with my colored ball point pens.

The Mini Art Journal

Look at this lovely Journal.
Small enough to fit in my hand.
Beautifully stitched and bound
just waiting to become . . . become whatever I want.

page one:
Walk with
the dreamers
the believers
the courageous
the cheerful
the planners
the doers
the successful people with their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground. Let their spirit ignite a fire within you to leave this world better than when you found it.   ~ Wilferd Peterson 1900 - 1995

Three Bears in the Shower with Rubber Ducky

BEARS IN THE SHOWER
or
You make bath time lots of fun!
What fun - this large 30 x 40" acrylic painting.
I wanted to create a painting that would look good on a shower curtain.
So I am painting a shower curtain.

The canvas was first collaged with pages from a book of maps.
I am hoping to let this paper show through the painting in some places.
Then I painted the base coat.

Acrylic Mixed Media Sommelier Dog Wine Painting

HAIR OF THE DOG

This fun and whimsical painting will be the featured star of my August exhibit at the
Adams County Winery, 25C Chambersburg St., Gettysburg PA 17325.

The gallery wrapped canvas was collaged with old sheet music which can be seen
in the background. I used acrylic markers
to build the first layer of the
painting. Finding just the right dog took a lot of research
as he needed to look good in red.
Frenchie was the perfect choice!

Landscape Acrylic Painting

LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Landscape painting is a genre I normally avoid. There are so so many talented artists who paint beautiful realistic landscape paintings that I did not want to get lost in the crowd. Hence the reason I paint conceptual whimsical colorful paintings.

But my family has said to me on more than one occasion -
"Why don't you paint something someone might like?".
So I decided to do just that.
I will hang it in a show this summer and see what the reception is.

Recycled Painting - Red Flower in Acrylic with Collage

Another Recycled Painting,
an old painting that needs a new lease on life.
Rather than spend years in the closet,
I've re-invented this canvas.
Painted over with gesso, then stenciled and glazed,
creating a background to start a new painting.

The flower petals were cut from a
1935 issue of Home and Garden.
