Landscape Acrylic Painting

LANDSCAPE PAINTING

Landscape painting is a genre I normally avoid. There are so so many talented artists who paint beautiful realistic landscape paintings that I did not want to get lost in the crowd. Hence the reason I paint conceptual whimsical colorful paintings.

But my family has said to me on more than one occasion -
"Why don't you paint something someone might like?".
So I decided to do just that.
I will hang it in a show this summer and see what the reception is.

Recycled Painting - Red Flower in Acrylic with Collage

Another Recycled Painting,
an old painting that needs a new lease on life.
Rather than spend years in the closet,
I've re-invented this canvas.
Painted over with gesso, then stenciled and glazed,
creating a background to start a new painting.

The flower petals were cut from a
1935 issue of Home and Garden.

Recycled Painting - Bird Houses in Acrylic and Mixed Media

LadyBug Bird House

This recycled painting has come a long way. Collage under the painting adds texture. Some of the collage book pages can be seen through the glaze along with some of the pencil drawing. I like the pencil showing thru, I will work on that in my next painting.

In Process:  It was pointed out to me that my values were all the same, no light and dark, no drama. So, I darkened here and there and lightened here and there.

Recycled Painting - Bird Houses in Acrylic and Mixed Media

in progress
I  love painting on the texture of the previous collage.
I also love the  acrylic markers that
I use to draw the birdhouse.

Recycled Painting - Bird Houses in Acrylic and Mixed Media

I am continuing with painting on a collaged canvas.
What better than an old painting that needs a new life.
A canvas with the
collage already there.
This time I covered it with opaque paint -
nothing of the original painting will show thru,
but the texture will be there.

The original painting:

Collaged Blue Birds in Acrylic and Mixed Media

Finished.
The collaged paper adds texture to the painting.
And in the places where the acrylic paint is just a glaze, the writing on the paper is visible.
I love this effect.
These painting are small, 10 x 10". on gallery wrapped canvas. I always wrap the painting around the sides.

You can see the dictionary pages in this photo while the painting was in process.

Collaged Blue Birds in Acrylic and Mixed Media

My family encouraged me to paint something someone might like. A more traditional subject.
So I drew some cute bluebirds
But, I couldn't help myself - I collaged the canvas with pages from an old dictionary.
Keeping an element of collage satisfies my love of glue and paper.
Just trying something new.

Kites At The Beach - Mixed Media Collage Painting

Kites At The Beach

Finished after adding more painted paper and thread.
Some paintings just complete them selves. This is one of those.

Kites At The Beach - Mixed Media Collage Painting

Mixed Media Collage Painting

Again, so many layers and so much collage.  I love the blue fabric with the scallops. I added some acrylic washes and painted some areas using an acrylic marker.

After I added the white thread, I decided it reminded me of the beach, so I will call it

Turn Down That Noise - Mixed Media Collage Painting

This painting is almost pure collage - except for the painted background.

Layers and layers of
~sheet music and paper
~ painted tissue paper
~ fabic
~ embroidery thread

I added washes of acrylic paint to send some areas to the background, giving the viewers eyes a place to rest.

I have titled it

Turn Down That Noise

simply because it is so loud and busy. I might need to add more quiet space.

Putting it aside and will consider it later.

Turn Down That Noise - Mixed Media Collage Painting

Starting a new abstract collage.
I've prepared the canvas with layers of paper, stencils, and paint. I like to use the gallery wrapped canvas and always extend the painting around the sides.

Collage and Mixed Media Marionette

My Marionette mixed media collage is complete. I used acrylic markers and colored pencils to add details.

 I've titled it:

Marionettes

I was never clever with titles. Marionettes is short and sweet.

Collage and Mixed Media Marionette

 Marionettes

I am doing a second marionette collage painting. This time I will create three in my painting.

Once again, I've prepared the canvas with layers of color, stencils, and paper. I've drawn my puppets on brown paper with colored pencils.

In retrospect, next time I will use white paper. The brown paper is dull, not bright enough for my main characters.
