After receiving a beautiful set of pencil pastels for Christmas, last Christmas to be specific, I thought I should finally use them before this Christmas! I have never used pastels of any kind. I have always been quite adverse to messy sticks of chalk! But these were pencils, much like my colored pencils. I found they are very much like my colored pencils - only quicker to use. Very pleasing actually.
And on top of learning a new medium - there are paper choices!
This one is on sanded pastel paper - which I love!
This one, the same scene as above, is on textured pastel paper - which would have been okay if I hadn't tried the sanded paper.

This is one of those works of art that
do not turn out looking the way it did in my head.
It began as a watercolor exercise.
But since I do no like watercolors and fight them
every inch of the way, I finally gave in to
the call of the colored pencils.

Getting ready for Fall, cool weather and warm rich colors.
Here is another of my watercolor exercises.
Watercolors are not my favorite medium,
they make me work hard and struggle.
I finally had to use my colored pencils to finish the sky.
