The author had a visual in her head of how she wanted the cover to look. This is a self published book, so I am able to meet with the author and try to create what she wants. I am just a tool for her. This is not about me creating art, it's all about creating for the author. In the publishing world, I think the author and artist never meet, let alone talk about the work.
After seeing my first drafts, the author wanted this scenario - the girl sitting in a sideways position and looking in the box. The trolls needed to be squatty and ferocious and no trees.
